Sugar Ray
Sugar Ray embarked upon the entertainment world, at the age of 8 years old–replicating James Brown dance moves on stage and singing back up for “Marvin Holmes & The Uptights” (which later became “Love Unlimited” of “Barry White Love Unlimited band Orchestra”). Ray performed with the band for 4 years until a voice change led him to pursue acting and comedy at the age of 15.
He joined Danny Glover’s acting school, where he performed very well in several plays and stand-up gigs over a 3 year period.
Sugar Ray matriculated on to join Bay Area Productions, introducing him to a score of talented s actors and comedians such as Blair Underwood and Martin Lawrence. Because Ray demonstrated a natural ability to have everybody on the floor laughing, with his quick wit and jokes, Blair, Martin and others encourage him to join Russell Simmons “DEF Comedy Jam Tour.”
Though, comedy and acting was a dream as a teenager, it was a dream that was deferred until now– because Ray’s heart at the time was music and songwriting. As a songwriter and producer, Sugar Ray has worked with countless well known artist and notables such as the late Nicholas Caldwell (The Whispers) Grady Wilkins (The Whispers), Levert, Keith Sweat, Ready for the World, The Dramatics, Carl Carlton, Mr. Benjamin Wright, and have written songs for Cindy Heron (of En Vogue). Today Ray is currently the producer, writer, music director, and bass player for the local group, RGTC Experience.
